Dr. Andrew Lewandowski is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, currently serving as a Staff Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH), and as a Visiting Medical Officer at Cairns Base Hospital, Greenslopes Private Hospital, and Herston Private Hospital.
Read MoreOriginally from Queensland, Dr. Lewandowski was part of the first cohort of students at the University of Queensland to pursue a combined MBBS-MPhil program, completing both degrees concurrently. His MPhil research focused on the inflammatory and immune profiles of skin cancers, conducted at the UQ Translational Research Institute under the supervision of Professor H. Peter Soyer, a renowned expert in dermatological research. His work has been presented at national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Lewandowski maintains a strong commitment to research. He is the current Chair of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Research Committee at RBWH and actively participates in research projects and grant applications aimed at advancing both clinical and epidemiological knowledge in the field.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Lewandowski holds educational roles, including Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland, where he teaches medical students, and he regularly conducts educational seminars for General Practitioners and Plastic Surgery trainees.
Clinically, Dr. Lewandowski has a special interest in skin cancer surgery, head and neck reconstruction, lymphoedema management, and lower limb trauma. His extensive training in microsurgery enables him to perform complex free tissue transfers and super-microsurgical procedures, often involving intricate, highly specialized operations. He performs surgical procedures in all of the above areas and is active in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings at the RBWH for Head/Neck Cancer, Melanoma and, Osteomyelitis (mDRIFT).
